Krug Collection Vintage Champagne 1989 with a Wooden Gift Box 75cl from Krug one of the greatest producers of Champagne.
Krug is the only producer to ferment all its Champagnes in traditional small old oak barriques, followed by extended ageing on the lees (a minimum of six years, far longer than most). This unique approach results in highly distinctive wines that are recognisably Krug: an intense nutty bouquet, full-bodied with rich complex flavours, racy with a very dry finish.
The Collection Wines are those held back by the Krug family for sale when mature, after 15 to 20 years of ageing. These represent the last bottles of exceptional vintages that have lain undisturbed in the Krug cellars throughout their lives.
92 points - "The 1989 Brut Collection comes across as rather soft and sublime. A delicate, finely sculpted mousse emerges from the glass, caressing the palate with notable class. It is a Collection that impresses for its considerable balance and sheer class. As good as this is, I see little benefit from further cellaring." Antonio Galloni - Wine Advocate
