Rosé Wine

Rosé wine is made in a range of colours depending on the winemaking technique, both in the skin contact or Saignee process, where although there are variations between the processes, it is the contact between the juice and the skins of the grapes that imparts the colour and intensity of the wine. With the blending process it is the simple process of mixing red wine to a white wine to impart colour.

Historically rosé was quite a delicate, dry wine, exemplified by Anjou rosé from the Loire Valley. The fashion for medium-sweet rosés for mass-market consumption and the American "blush" wines of the 1970's has recently change towards more drier styles.

In France, rosé has exceeded white wines in sales. Rose’s are often seen as a benchmark of the wine or champagne house.
