Red wine

Red wine - it's all in the skin! The exact colour whether its a deep purple or a lighter red is due to the skin colour of the grape and the amount of time the grapes are allowed to marinate with their skins. It is during this time that they absorb pigments and other aspects such as tannins from the skins.

Notable red wine grape variety include; Pinot Noir, Temperanillo, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Shiraz to name but a few as there are around 40-50 different varieties currently in focus with the wine producers of the world. Both New and Old World locations provide some amazing locations in which the grapes are grown. Both Malbec and Merlot grape varieties produce exceptional fine wines in France, Chile and Argentina, whilst Cabernet Sauvignon regions include Bordeaux, France, California and South America.

Red wine is best served between 60-65 degrees Fahrenheit in order get the best possible flavour, glasses should be larger than that of its white wine cousin in order to allow the wine to swirl and breath a little. In general most wines will benefit with 15-20min aeration whereas a young

Cabernet Sauvignon will more likely require an hour or so for proper aeration to soften the flavour.
